Trout Looking to Future Title Fight

It wasn’t that long ago that Austin Trout was at the top of the 154 pound division after he defended his title for the fourth time with a unanimous decision win over Miguel Cotto in 2012. Trout was the 2004 U.S. National Amateur welterweight championship and moved up the ranks in boxing until he won the welterweight title in 2004 by defeating Roberto Alvarez. He defended that title four times including the win over Cotto in 2012. The winning stopped though next year as he lost unanimous decisions to Canelo Alvarez in April of 2013 and Erislandy Lara in December of 2013. Trout got back to his winning ways with wins over Daniel Dawson and Luis Grajeda in 2014 and Luis Galarza earlier this year. He now takes on Hernandez in another step on the road to a future title fight. “This is an important fight,” said Trout, “Winning should get me within inches of my next title fight.”

Hernandez Looking for Career Jolt

This is a huge fight for Hernandez who comes in having lost two of his past three bouts. His only win in three bouts was a seventh-round stoppage of Jose Miguel Rodriguez Berrio. He was beaten by Cornelius Bundrage and Julian Williams. Hernandez is known for having fast hands but he doesn’t have a lot of power and he has not shown in the past that he can handle top opponents. He is talking like he can handle Trout but that remains to be seen. “This is a big fight for me and I’m grateful to have the opportunity on this stage,” said Hernandez. “I’m coming with no fear and I’m coming to win. I respect what Austin Trout has done in the sport but I’m going to make his life miserable on September 8.”

Luis Emmanuel Cusolito (21-1, 19 KOs)

Cusolito is looking for his 8th straight win and seventh in a row by knockout when he takes on Flores. He will be making his American debut in this bout. Cusolito has been a pro since 2010 with his only loss coming to Maximiliano Marquez in 2012.

Moises Flores (23-0, 16 KOs)

Flores is coming off a split decision win over Oscar Escandon in a 122-pound title fight in April. It was just the second time in his last 16 fights that Flores was taken the distance. Flores has already beaten a Mexican boxer as he defeated Rodrigo Mendoza three years ago. He has made three appearances in the U.S. including the win against Escandon.
