The 2022 College Football National Championship will be played next Monday, January 10th at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana.  The #3-ranked Georgia Bulldogs (13-1) and #1-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide, two SEC powerhouses, will battle it out in the game to become the National Champion.

The Georgia Bulldogs were the consensus #1 ranked team for most of the season, winning their first 12 games before losing 41-24 to Alabama in the SEC Championship game.  The Bulldogs bounced back with a convincing 34-11 win over Michigan in their college football semi-final game to book their spot in the finals.

Alabama lost an early season game 41-38 at Texas A&M, but they’ve been perfect since including the impressive SEC Championship win over Georgia that catapulted Alabama to the #1-seed, and in their solid 27-6 win over the Cincinnati Bearcats in the other college football semi-final game.

Odds

The Georgia Bulldogs are slight favorites heading into the National Championship game despite Alabama being the #1 ranked team and SEC Champions.  Most online betting sites have Georgia as either 2.5 or 3 point favorites in the game.  If you’re interested in betting on the game check out this How To Bet On The National Championship article.

The money line at most sportsbooks has the Georgia Bulldogs as -140 favorites.  This means you would have to risk $140 to win $100 betting on Georgia to win the game.  These odds imply that Georgia has a 58.3% chance of winning the game.  Alabama’s odds are generally +120 at the time of this article, which indicates Alabama has a 45.5% chance of winning the game.  The extra 3.8% is the juice charged by the sportsbook.

The over/under for the game is set at 52.5 points.  Here’s another National Championship betting lines article with a more in depth breakdown of the different bets you can make on the 2022 National Championship game (and possibly more up to date odds).

History

Alabama is the defending College Football National Champion, having defeated Ohio State 52-24 in last years National Championship game.  The Crimson Tide have won 3 of the 7 National Championships since the College Football Playoffs began in 2014.  They’ve won 6 of the past 12 National Championships dating back to 2009.

Georgia is considered a college football powerhouse, but they have not had the same success as Alabama.  The Georgia Bulldogs have only made it to the National Championship game once since the College Football Playoffs began in 2014, losing to Alabama 26-23 in the 2017 championship game.
