Prior to Wednesday evening’s post position draw, 2014 Kentucky Derby odds to win offered some tremendous value in some cases.  The draw positions for some of this year’s contenders were expected to either reduce the odds based on a positive outcome.

Then again, placing an early wager on the Kentucky Derby could be risky should that horse be given a poor post position (most spots 10-20 are typically considered a disadvantage.

Early favorite California Chrome had odds of slightly greater than 2/1 but, in the event he is selected to take on either the 1, 5, 8 or 10 spots we could see this price slashed significantly.

Should California Chrome draw at the number 20 spot, we will likely see his odds get much longer.  Only one horse in the history of the Kentucky Derby has won from this position.

Below are the early odds on the 2014 Kentucky Derby.  For the latest updated odds go to Sportsbook.com here.

How We Follow Horse Racing Has Completely Changed

Horse racing has always been a sport built on routine. Certain days meant certain tracks, the form guide landed when it landed, and if you missed a race, you simply caught up later. Following the sport required a bit of commitment, a bit of patience, and often a bit of guesswork.
