Odds on the Next President of France

Odds on the next President of France following the arrest of Dominique Strauss Kahn were now available at PaddyPower.com.  The very unpopular Nicolas Sarkozy was now close to an even-0dds favorite.

IMF boss Dominique Strauss-Kahn was arrested on sex attack charges in New York after a hotel maid filed a police report over the weekend.   Strauss-Kahn was widely anticipated to become France’s next President in 2012.

Strauss-Kahn was listed at 10-1 odds to become the next President of France next year, if he even lives that long.

The head of the International Monetary Fund and one-time favorite to become France’s next President was said to be on “suicide watch” at Rikers Island where he is being held away from the rest of the prison population.  Strauss-Kahn is being represented by famed Mob attorney Ben Brafman.  While Brafman has enjoyed a great deal of success in court over the years, he did lose a case defending online gambling operator Jay Cohen in 2000.

Many in France believe that the IMF head is being framed.

"If this happened in France it would have been very different," said a friend of the alleged victim, adding that he believed in the U.S. judicial system and that she would testify against Strauss-Kahn.  "We trust this American justice is different than European justice," he said. "She trusts American justice."

Here are the latest odds on who will become the next President of France.

Nicolas Sarkozy (UPM) 6/4

Francois Hollande (SP) 15/8

Martine Aubrey (SP) 11/4

Segolene Royal (SP) 8/1
