The Poker Stars UKIPT Edinburgh has come to a dramatic conclusion after three full days of play at the Corn Exchange. The fearless Fintan Gavin has won the title and £61,500 first prize, beating first-time live deep-stack player Andrew Hawksby heads up and becoming the first Irish champion of Season 2.

A total field of 519 entered the £500 Main Event, creating a prize pool of £251,715.

Fintan Gavin rose up suddenly from the middle of the pack on Day 2 to take a commanding lead by the final table.  His foot seemingly glued to the gas pedal, poker-wise, his unpredictable and fearless playing style combined with a talent for talking have made him one of the stand-out players in this event so far.  Gavin, 43, is no stranger to big live events – he’s amassed over $1,250,000 in tournament winnings and is ranked 5thin the Ireland all-time money list.  Gavin’s interest in poker also crosses to the other side of the felt: he owns the Eglington Casino in Galway and also organises the Irish Poker Championship which has been sponsored by PokerStars as the Galway leg of the UKIPT for two years.  When asked what he would do with another big score, he answered, “Buy shares in Eoghan O’Dea.”
