UB.com is gearing up to deliver another awesome ‘Second Sundays’ online fundraiser, this time to support Philadelphia man, Jason La Monaca, who’s been battling colon cancer now for four years. The August 8th $10 buy-in event at UB.com is scheduled for 14:45 ET, and will be hosted by Team UB Pro Annie Duke. UB will match 100% of the prize pool, with all proceeds donated to this month’s chosen beneficiary, plus all participants are automatically in the running for $2150 in added prizes.

The 38 year-old Jason was first diagnosed with colon cancer in 2007, and throughout his treatment, he’s proven that even in hardship and sickness, the rewards are still there in helping others. Jason has staged two benefits of his own, and the money he raised he donated to cancer research and families dealing with a cancer-stricken family member.

Despite Jason’s willingness to step up and support others, he’s traditionally needed convincing to accept a handout himself. But the ladies of “3 Girls, 13.2 Miles, 1 Cause” wouldn’t take no for an answer, and ran a half marathon to raise over $2,000 for their friend and his mounting debt. Recently, Jason received news that his most current round of chemotherapy at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital was ineffective, and on the same day, he returned to his parents’ home to find that $1,700 of the money raised by Jackie Reynolds, Jennifer Creaven and Shannon Mieriello had been stolen.

Now it’s time for Jason to get a break from misfortune, and to let the poker community show him that there are still good people in this world. Rick Blumenthal of ‘Poker Players Unite’ renown, himself a Philly resident, brought Jason’s plight to UB’s attention, with the August 8th Second Sundays event set to raise much needed funds for Jason’s ongoing treatment and care. Direct donations can also be made online at UB via Player-to-Player transfer to the account “CHARITIES” (first name is “Charity” - a required field for all P2P transfers).

The upcoming charity poker tournament payouts to the top ten finishers include entry to UB’s weekly Sunday $200+15 buy-in $200,000 Guaranteed tournament. The winner will receive a bonus wireless poker controller. There’s also a bounty on Annie’s head; the player who sends her to the rail picks up a $66 entry to UB’s $7K GTD tourney at 21:30 ET on the same day.

Last month’s Second Sundays event, hosted by Team UB’s Tiffany Michelle, benefited the Crystal King Benefit Foundation (“CKBF”). A total of 237 players participated, raising an overall figure of $4,740 for this worthwhile charity.

Register now for this month’s Second Sunday event by logging onto UB.com (or AbsolutePoker.com) and look for the tournament name “Second Sundays Charity” in the tournament lobby in the “EVENTS” tab.

UB’s Second Sunday fundraiser tournaments are hosted online across the CEREUS Network on the second Sunday of every month, with each one benefiting a different worthwhile national charity. Players at Absolute Poker are also invited to participate and support these events.
