With Jonathan Duhamel winning the 2015 WSOP High Roller for One Drop event and nearly $4 million to go along with yet another bracelet, we can only hope that the 2010 World Series of Poker champ invests in a better home security system.

For those of you who haven’t been following Gambling911.com since that 2010 victory (as well as those who may have forgotten), here is a little refresher.

In December 2011, just days before Christmas and a little over a year after winning the WSOP Main Event, Duhamel was the victim of a brazen home invasion.  Armed bandits entered his suburban Montreal home, tied Duhamel up, beat him and stole cash out of a safe along with his cherished World Series of Poker bracelet.  All of these items were later recovered.

The culprits were eventually identified as Duhamel’s ex-girlfriend, Bianca Rojas-Latraverse, and two male accomplices.  Rojas-Latraverse was sentenced to 3.5 years in 2012.

She told the parole board last year that she wanted to serve her entire three-and-a-half-year sentence behind bars and, as if that were not bizarre enough, the parole board has denied her this request.

This meant Rojas-Latraverse was released nearly a year to this day, June 30.

“The Corrections and Conditional Release Act stipulates that you will be released under supervision on the prescribed date and remain (free) until your sentence expires,” the board ruled. “The main factors that contributed to your criminal behavior are poor management of your emotions, and lax and criminal values idleness, significant emotional immaturity and the lure of easy money,” it added.

No doubt Duhamel has been sleeping with one eye open each night.
