Organizers of The Punta Cana Poker Classic announced today that they will guarantee half a million dollars in its prize pool this year. The Texas Hold’em tournament will be held from November 8th to 13th at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. This event was widely covered by Gambling911.com last year. Jenny Woo and the gang will be on hand to cover this year’s tournament as well.
The 500% increase to last year’s prize pool makes this year’s Punta Cana Poker Classic one of the biggest land based tournaments in the Caribbean this year. The event exceeded turnout expectations in its inaugural event in 2010 by more than doubling its $100,000 guaranteed prize pool to more than $200,000.
Event organizer Ivonne Brath commented on the announcement: “This year we want to make it really big. Last year the tournament was awesome and players were really satisfied. We are guaranteeing half a million dollars and a very international feel. We are in the process of confirming some “A” list celebrities that want to attend our event. We’re going to make this the coolest event in the Caribbean.”
Packages can be bought directly for $3,000, which includes 5 nights at the all-inclusive five star Punta Cana Hard Rock Hotel, the $1500 + $150 buy-in, and a $1500 hotel credits that can be used for spa, golf, and tours from the hotel.
Organizers are actively scouting poker operators to send their players to the event by qualifying online. Unlike many other land based tournaments, the Punta Cana Poker Classic is a non-branded event and gives all online operators the option to send their players. “We invite any and all poker operators to send their players and to use Punta Cana Poker Classic as a marketing tool to reward their loyal players,” said Brath. “The idea is to share an amazing location with players from all over the world doing what they love, which is playing poker.”
