PokerStars is celebrating the seventh anniversary of the Sunday Million – poker’s richest weekly tournament – with a special event featuring a $7 million guaranteed prize pool on March 3 at 14.30 ET. With $1 million guaranteed for first place it is set to be one of the richest online poker tournaments of all time.

Team PokerStars Pro Lex Veldhuis said: “I remember playing in previous Sunday Million Anniversary tournaments well. The gigantic prize pools make them so memorable and I'm sure this one will be no different with $1 million for the winner! I'm going to stock up on food and drink so I'm ready to grind this one! It's so big that it's like playing an EPT online.”

Satellite qualifiers

Players can buy into the $215 tournament directly or qualify through one of the many satellite tournaments that will run on PokerStars beginning February 24. There is also a special deadline satellite on March 3 at 14.25 ET which will guarantee 1,000 seats, while $1 feeder satellites into that deadline qualifier will run hourly from February 24 and every 30 minutes from March 1.

There are also some one-off ‘VIP Bash’ satellites running on March 2, which enable players to qualify for as little as 50 FPPs. To find the qualifiers click ‘Tourney’ > ‘Satellites’ in the PokerStars lobby.

Sunday Million history

Last year’s sixth anniversary Sunday Million event was won by ‘slyfox151’ who topped a field of 33,732 players to win an adjusted first prize of $480,761.38 after an eight-way deal was done at the final table.

There have been bigger previous winners however, with Luke ‘Bdbeatslayer’ Vrabel winning $671,093.81 (as part of a nine-way chop) for the fifth anniversary in 2011, while in 2010 ‘RichieRichZH’ topped a field of more than 36,000 players to win a first prize of $1,141,510.31 after no deal was done at the final table.

The biggest ever Sunday Million, and largest online tournament poker prize pool to date, was one held in honour of PokerStars’ 10th Anniversary in December 2011. That tourney saw 62,116 players enter, creating a record prize pool of $12,423,200, and was won by ‘First-Eagle’ from Canada for $1,146,574.65.
