Poker Maximus III – Day 8 Recap

In the end, three more winners were crowned as the Poker Maximus III series gears up for its final weekend.  Check out Carbon Poker here and start playing today for FREE or REAL MONEY

Event #23: $10,000 Guaranteed NLH deep stack – ($10+1 buy-in)

This was a relatively cheap deep stack tournament and because of that PM III saw its biggest field yet with 1394 players entering this tournament. With so many players and chips on the table, you knew this tournament would take a while to complete and true to form, a winner was crowned nine and a half hours later. It was SIDEUKAKsK and Smokey34 who were lucky enough to be the final two but it was the former who ended up outlasting them all and claiming the nearly $2500 first prize.

On the final hand both players had monster starting hands but it was Smokey34 who had to act first with his Ah,Qd. Being on the shorter stack and knowing that hand is huge in heads-up play, he shoved all in for nearly 3 million chips when the blinds were only 40k/80k. The bad news for Smokey34 was that SIDEUKAKsK had a big hand of his own (Ad,Kh) and was more than willing to call. The board blanked for both players when the 6d,Th,3h,3s,9c fell and SIDEUKAKsK’s Ace-high with a King kicker was good enough for the victory.

Final Table Payouts and Prize Winners:

1 SIDEUKAKsK $2472.26; 2 Smokey34 $1672.81; 3 frostbit420 $1324.31; 4 HoldemNextt $1017.63; 5 SqeezePlaycowboy $724.89; 6 kensthebest $571.55; 7 tjsfishfry1 $432.15; 8 Thejake69 $306.69; 9 IMVERYGOOD $209.11

Event #24: $12,000 Guaranteed HORSE– ($200+15 buy-in)

This was the second straight HORSE event but this one was a lot steeper in price with the $200 buy-in. With HORSE being a game with a selected audience and the big buy-in, Event #24 only saw 89 entrants meaning that only those to reach the final table of nine would cash However, those 89 entrants still boosted the prize pool another $5000, making the final number of $17,800 to be split among those top nine players.

It came down to THELedheads and onetimeEATIT as they were locked in a battle for the title. When the final hand came around these two were playing Razz and onetimeEATIT was down to their last legs. OnetimeEATIT had a little over 4000 chips to start the hand and once THELedheads brought in the full amount of 6000, onetimeEATIT had to call. Once all the streets were dealt it was THELedheads who came out on top with one of the best Razz hands out there; A-3-4-5-6. OnetimeEATIT could not top that monster and had to settle for 2nd place and $3500. Congrats to THELedheads on winning Event #24 and almost $5700.

Final table results:

1 THELedheads $5696.00; 2 onetimeEATIT $3560.00; 3 rakebackpro993 $2136.00; 4 9ridinfooldrawing $1780.00; 5 YusukeUrameshi37 $1424.00; 6 onepoor5fig $1068.00; 7 BeaverBoyz $890.00; 8 BustNuts $712.00; 9 krivbass1989 $534.00

Event #25: $25,000 Guaranteed NLH rebuy – ($55+5 buy-in)

The final event of the day saw 229 players hit the felt and after the rebuy period was over the prize pool was up to a little over $34,000. With less than 250 players this tournament didn’t last as long as typical rebuys do, but with the quality of the field involved, I don’t think any or the players minded much at all. Just before the 5.5 hour mark the final hand was played as bk1048 and SparrowSilver were battling for that 1st place prize money of almost $8400.

By the time bk1048 and SparrowSilver got down to the final hand, the blinds were at 20k/40k and both players understood what the other liked to do. This time though, both players had pocket pairs and there was bound to be an explosion. It was bk1048 who made a min-raise with his pocket Jacks and he got a call from his opponent who was holding pocket 4’s. A flop of 2h,6s,2c came down and after SparrowSilver checked, bk1048 bet out again. This time, there wasn’t going to be any calling from SparrowSilver with his 4’s and he shoved all-in only to find out the bad news when bk1048 quickly called and flipped over Jacks. The turn card was the 9h and an unneeded Js fell on the river giving bk1048 a full house and the tournament victory.

Final table results:

1 bk1048 $8387.51; 2 SparrowSilver $5568.76; 3 kbsaa69 $3437.51; 4 thotpolice84 $2578.13; 5 behindbleu $2131.26; 6 MonoYark $1718.76; 7 gogopackers $1375.01; 8 Maciel85 $1100.00; 9 Rebeca90 $859.37
