Poker Maximus III – Day 7 Recap

Day 7 of the Poker Maximus III event had three more great events take place with Hold’em being the game of choice. There were two NL Hold’em events and the second Limit Hold’em event of PM III. Three more talented poker players came away with titles and here’s how it happened:  Join Carbon Poker here to take part in this magnificent event.

Event #20: $30,000 Guaranteed NLH – ($100+9 buy-in)

This was the biggest buy-in event of the day and 442 players were brave enough to put up the $100 buy-in fee for a shot at their piece of $30K guaranteed. However, with all those entrants, the total prize pool had jumped all the way up to $44,200 with a first place payout of $9414.60. It came down to ShaChaim and TooOldForThis in the end as both players were very deserving of this title.

On the final hand, ShaChaim was holding Ks,Th and was in the big blind waiting to see what his short-stacked opponent would do. TooOldForThis looked down and had pocket 7’s and decided that this was the chance to double up, so all the chips went into the middle. After deliberating for a while, ShaChaim called and the race was on. A flop of 9h,Qd,Ts made it very difficult for TooOldForThis to stay alive as ShaChaim had paired his 10’s and had an inside-straight draw to go with it. One of the two remaining 7’s had to fall for TooOldForThis and it wasn’t meant to be as the 2h and Kc fell on the turn and river. Congrats to ShaChaim for claiming Event #20.

1 ShaChaim $9414.60; 2 TooOldForThis $6409.00; 3 Heisenberg77 $4309.50; 4 jcgonz13 $3094.00; 5 Slickpulla703 $2652.00; 6 floponly $2210.00; 7 Gnoby55 $1768.00; 8 gogopackers $1326.00; 9 NinjAces $884.00

Event #21: $15,000 Guaranteed NLH 1 rebuy/1 add-on – ($30+3 buy-in)

Rebuy tournaments are always great for boosting guaranteed prize pots and Event #21 was no different as the final tally was over $10K higher than the guaranteed amount. 355 players entered this event and eventually were playing for over $25,000. About seven hours later a winner was crowned as jcinblue took home the first place prize of $5934.

On the final hand, jcinblue Ac,Th and made a min-raise to 50K in chips. Zapstar3311 was the only opponent left for jcinblue and when he decided to go all-in over the top with his A-9 suited in diamonds, jcinblue had a decision to make. Ultimately the call was made and jcinblue had to like that they were well out in front with the 10 kicker. A board of Js,Kd,Ts,5c,Kh essentially changed nothing as jcinblue still had the best hand and took down the event.

Final table results and prizes:

1 jcinblue $5934.00; 2 Zapstar3311 $4050.60; 3 RedEyedMan $2580.00; 4 KingStarrr $1935.00; 5 Monopsonist $1573.80; 6 pokerdrt2 $1290.00; 7 Neobranco27 $1006.20; 8 roboalbeia $748.20; 9 ShaChaim $567.60

Event #22: $5,000 Guaranteed Limit Hold’em – ($55+5 buy-in)

The final event of the day saw the second Limit Hold’em event of the series and 158 players decided to cap off their day by playing in this event. A smaller field means only the top 18 get paid but it was best to finish somewhere on the final table. BustNuts and dave6577 were two of those players who made it to the final nine and they actually outlasted everyone else to battle heads-up for first.

Limit poker allows players to chase big hands for relatively cheap and that’s exactly what we saw on the final hand between these two. It was dave6577 who was sitting there with pocket aces and was forcing the action all the way until the end, but a nasty river card burned him. BustNuts was holding 9s,Qc and when the flop came down 6s,Ts,8d it would be tough for him to fold. After a bet and a couple of re-raises the 4c fell on the turn and this time BustNuts simply called dave6577’s bet. They knew that dave6577 was essentially all-in on this hand with a little over 12,000 in chips remaining (a min bet was 16k) so any 7 or J would seal the deal for BustNuts. Well, the 7c fell on the river and BustNuts lead out knowing dave6577 had no other choice but to call all-in at that point. BustNuts showed him the straight and got up from the table with the 1st place prize money. Congrats to both players on a fine showing.

Final table results:

1 BustNuts $2407.13; 2 dave6577 $1564.20; 3 iNcOgNiTo888 $1042.80; 4 chickfilasucks $695.20; 5 whatupman $556.16; 6 ivanm1122 $434.50; 7 S0undSystem $347.60; 8 PakaloloSweet $278.08; 9 LanaXX $217.25
