Poker Maximus III – Day 3 Recap

The first Saturday of Poker Maximus III saw quite a bit of action as three different Hold’em tournaments were the story of the day. Poker Maximus III saw its first Limit Hold’em event in Event #8 and 89 players decided to try their hand at it. We also had our first big NL Hold’em event with a $200+15 buy-in tournament that zackbaker was lucky enough to take down.  Join Carbon Poker here to take part in Poker Maximus III

Event #7: $20,000 Guaranteed NLH Rebuy – ($30+3 buy-in)

326 players entered the first event of this Saturday and with it being a rebuy event, you knew you would see plenty of big pots early on. By the time all the entrants and rebuys and addons were complete, the $20K guaranteed pot was boosted to over $25K making that first place prize nearly a juicy $6000. The final table saw some great back-and-forth play but in the end the title was down to hiteAA2 and silence23.

The final hand between these two saw a min-raise preflop called by silence23 and his 6h,3h. hiteAA2 was holding pocket Queens and knew this was his chance to get back into the match. However, when the flop came down Tc,3c,3d, little did he know he was in a world of hurt with his Queens and there was no way to get away from it. HiteAA2’s bet of 80K was called by silence23 as he was all for trapping hite AA2. After the turn brought a 9d, the chips ended up going all in and hiteAA2 was shown the horrible news. The river card only brought a kick in the pants as it was the fourth 3 and silence23 took home the title with four of a kind on the winning hand.

Final Table Payouts and Prize Winners:

1 silence23 $5940.90; 2 hiteAA2 $4055.31; 3 bk1048 $2583.00; 4 TebowSmokesCrack $1937.25; 5 grzesiek5555 $1575.63; 6 GodsBigToe $1291.50; 7 ihavenuts33 $1007.37; 8 gstrike2000 $749.07; 9 StefanRaab77 $568.26

Event #8: $5,000 Guaranteed Limit Hold’em – ($100+9 buy-in)

With a field of 89 players, this tournament saw some very good limit players in it and was one of the shorter tournaments out there. A winner was crowned in just over 4 hours as it was rounderAmosSlade claiming the first prize of $2848.

On the final hand rounderAmosSlade didn’t really have anything special with Ks,4h but in heads-up limit play, any starting hand is good. After the flop came down 5c,4s,4c his hand greatly improved but what he didn’t know was great news. It turned out his opponent nationwide62 had 4d,8c in his mitts and had to assume his three of a kind was the best hand. But rounderAmosSlade had him outkicked with his K and when the rest of the board showed the Ts and Ah, it was a done deal. Congrats to rounderAmosSlade on his victory.

1 rounderAmosSlade $2848.00; 2 nationwide62 $1780.00; 3 yallsomedonk $1068.00; 4 JimmyAlvarez $890.00; 5 YADDAYADDAYADDA $712.00; 6 PakaloloSweet $534.00; 7 ImaFnWiz4rd $445.00; 8 TheEndisNear11 $356.00; 9 senorbob12 $267.00

Event #9: $40,000 Guaranteed NLH Turbo – ($200+15 buy-in)

Saturday’s final event was another high-stakes tourney for players with deep bankrolls and the willingness to play in the $200+15 buy-in event.

The final hand of this big buy-in tournament was one of those “race” hands as players, zackbaker and BustNuts were ready to get it all in. BustNuts was the short stack and aggressor with his pocket 5’s but because his chip stack had been dwindled away, his all-in raise wasn’t hard for zackbaker to call with Ace-high (Ah,3s).

The flop gave BustNuts hope with the 6c,9d,6s as his 5’s were holding up. But that quickly turned with an Ad on the turn and only a miracle 5 on the river would save BustNuts this time. The Js fell and that was all she wrote for BustNuts. Congratulations to zackbaker holding on and taking down Event #9.
