First Steve Martin disclosed on late night television that he had stopped playing online poker due to fears and confusion over recent legislation, now we learn he quit after playing the game in his sleep.

From the UK Comedy Guide Chortle:

Steve Martin has vowed to stop taking the sleeping pill Ambien - after it made him play online poker in his sleep. He said: ‘It was late at night and I was playing poker... I took an Ambien to go to sleep and I had $500 in my account, I quit, and I went to bed. I woke up the next morning... and I had $1,500 in my account, and I said, "Oh, they made a mistake..." So I called the guy in Pakistan, and he said, "No we have your IP address, we have you playing between four and five in the morning..." I was playing better out of my mind, but I never took an Ambien again.'

Just the other day, Gambling911.com discussed the impact of alcohol on Internet poker play.  Not a whole lot of people admitted to playing better after a few drinks it seems.  But Ambien?  Playing in your sleep?  And you're up around $1000?

But maybe Steve Martin dreamt it.  After all, we're not exactly familiar with any online poker rooms located in Pakistan.
