Man Who Bilked Charity Poker Events Out of $6k Gets 5 Years

A former Warrenville Adelman, Chris Halley, has been sentenced to 5 years for bilking $6000 from charity poker events.

The 28-year-old pleaded guilty last month to two counts of theft. Authorities say he accepted money to help two men run the events in Naperville last year.

Circuit Court Judge George J. Bakalis turned down a request for probation, pointing out that Halley was already on probation at the time of the thefts.

“Being on probation and committing more offenses in my mind is very serious,” Bakalis said.

Halley, it turns out, got off relatively easy.  He had been facing up to 10 years behind bars.
