Estrellas Poker Tour Barcelona 2012 Beats All Records With Total Prize Pool €1,004,920

The Estrellas Poker Tour 2012 continued today as an astonishing 664 players started on day 1b, of which 41 qualified online with PokerStars.com. Casino Barcelona plays host to this event, and for its first time in the Catalan capital, the tour has broken all the previous records: 
- A total of 1036 players which makes Estrellas Poker Tour Barcelona the biggest poker tournament ever organised in Spain and the second biggest PokerStars.com European regional tournament of all time. 


A total prize pool of €1,004,920 with 128 players who will be in the money. 
- €200,000 for the winner of the event. 
- More than 70% of foreign players with 55 different nationalities at the tables 
- 13 previous EPT winners with Christophe Benzimra (EPT Warsaw), Zimnan Ziyard, (EPT Loutraki), Ivan Freitez (EPT Grand Final Madrid), Anton Wigg (EPT Copenhagen), Martin Finger (EPT Prague), Toby Lewis (EPT Vilamoura), David Vamplew (EPT London), Sandra Naujoks (EPT Dortmund), Andrey Pateychuk (EPT San Remo), Vladimir Geshkenbein (EPT Snowfest), Michael Eilder (EPT Vienna), Kevin MacPhee, (EPT Berlin), Kent Lundmark (EPT Barcelona).

Three members of the brand-new European Players Council competed on Estrellas Day 1b today Dominik Nitsche , Germany, Zuan Xuan Liu, Canada and Martin Jacobson, Sweden.

When play concluded for the day, there were 237 players remaining. A total of 372 players will return tomorrow for day 2 of the Estrellas Poker Tour Barcelona Main Event.

It was once again a tough day on the felt here in Barcelona, with many players being eliminated, including Team PokerStars Pros Matthias and Christophe De Meulder and Team PokerStars Online Grzegorz Mikielewicz.

Team PokerStars Pros Ana Márquez, Juan Manuel Pastor and Marcin Horecki made it through the day and will be back on Friday for the day 2 of Estrellas Poker Tour Barcelona, which starts at 12:00.

The overnight chip leader is Team PokerStars Pro Jude Ainsworth with 164,200 chips, followed by Lorenzo Sabato, who has 162,700 chips. In third position is Norman Bryan Michalek, with 129,700.
