45-event EPT Berlin is set to be Germany’s richest ever poker festival

BERLIN, GERMANY –The European Poker Tour (EPT) Season 9 Berlin festival is expected to boast a prize pool in excess of €10 million, smashing the €6.2 million paid out at last year’s Berlin events.

A total of 45 events make up the schedule for the penultimate EPT 9 event. The festival will run over 11 days from April 17-27 at Spielbank Berlin and the Grand Hyatt Hotel, and for the first time includes two Berlin Cup The flagship €5,300 Main Event takes place from April 21-27. Last year’s winner was Belgian pro Davidi Kitai, who won €712,000 after topping a field of 745 players and became one of only a few players to win poker’s ‘Triple Crown’ (EPT, WPT, WSOP titles) in the process. The schedule also includes a €1,100 7 Card Stud event and a €10,300 High Roller event.

EPT President Edgar Stuchly said: “Berlin is always a favourite stop for EPT players and this year is going to be better than ever. With the massive €10 million estimated prize pool across 45 exciting events, and the Berlin Cup – that’s got to get every poker player excited. But if that’s not enough for you, then there is always the fabulous nightlife and restaurants that Berlin is famous for.”

German tennis legend and poker player, Boris Becker, added: “I’m really looking forward to EPT Berlin this year. The schedule has such a wide variety of game types and buy-ins, so I’m definitely looking to play some side events as well as the Main Event.”

Commentators James Hartigan and Joe Stapleton will host the EPT Live webcast from April 21-27, beginning on Day 1a and going right through to the final table. They will be joined by a host of special guests in the commentary booth. In the early stages of the tournament, viewers will also be invited to vote on which table they would like to see featured on the show.

The European Poker Tour is world's richest and most popular poker tour. Since 2004 the EPT has staged nine hugely successful seasons that have spanned the continent.
