OAKLAND PARK, Fla. (Gambling911.com) - With the Democrats set to take control of both the House and Senate come January, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth's chances of exiting that role by February 2027 rose from 65 percent to 74 percent over the last 24 hours at the prediction market Kalshi.
It could be sooner based on what one unnamed official of President Donald Trump's administration told CNN Wednesday.
"I think he probably knows he's dead but would like an exit sufficiently dramatic that it gives him a launching pad to run for POTUS."
According to CNN, several Republicans believe Hegseth persuaded Trump to launch the military campaign without adequately preparing for its consequences. Some now view the defense secretary as a potential target of blame for the election results. Trump appears to be sticking with Hegseth for now.
Trump said he was not considering replacing Hegseth, despite voter dissatisfaction with the war, saying Hegseth was “doing a great job".
“The Iran thing we had to do, and we continue to do it,” Trump added.
"If the president is serious about anyone taking responsibility for it, it's Pete Hegseth," one Republican close to the White House told CNN. "Pete has been either dishonest or incorrect — neither of which are acceptable — about timelines, goals and objectives since the beginning."
On Wednesday, Vice President JD Vance, who is now co-favored to be elected the next President with Georgia's newly re-elected Senator Jon Osoff, blamed the Iran war for Republicans’ midterm wipeout.
