Brazil has ranked among the top countries in the world when it comes to the crypto casino market. That all came unraveled in a matter of days last month.
Brazil's President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva announced a ban on online betting operations in Latin America's largest economy late last month as part of a series of measures introduced ahead the election.
Opinion polls had shown Lula locked in a tight race with right-wing Senator Flavio Bolsonaro, eldest son of former President Jair Bolsonaro, ahead of the October 4 first-round vote, which Bolzonaro won handily.
The Lula administration believed that online betting is driving Brazilian families deeper into debt, worsening gambling addiction and diverting money away from household necessities.
Of course, this proclamation was not about to happen without a fight. The first battle was won by the powerhouse brand Stake.com.
It's a good company for those in Brazil to still have access to. Stake.com crypto casino reviews are almost always positive.
Stake features an outstanding promotional schedule with daily $100k+ prize pools, instant crypto withdrawals with support for a wide range of coins and top-tier sportsbook covering 50+ sports, including live streaming.
With the temporary win, Stake is currently the only licensed online gambling company in Brazil.
The ruling comes courtesy of the 9th Federal Civil Court of São Paulo granting a partial preliminary injunction against Provisional Measure 1,394/2026.
The ruling provisionally preserves the effects of Stake Brasil's authorisation to operate fixed-odds betting in Brazil.
Under the decision, which remains effective until 25 October 2026, Stake Brasil's authorisation remains valid, its website at stake.bet.br cannot be blocked or redirected, and sanctions cannot be imposed on the company for operating within the conditions established by the court.
Then on October 13, we were learning that a federal appeals court suspended the injunction allowing Stake to resume operations.
Brazil's Supreme Court is expected to consider the wider gambling ban after the October 25 presidential runoff election.
A fuller constitutional determination could decide whether the prohibition can remain in force at that time.
While the status of online gambling in Brazil remains fluid, four other countries currently dominate the crypto casino landscape with a slightly more accommodating environment.
India
India has a population of approximately 1.48 billion people (estimated at about 1,476,625,576 to 1,480,313,579 as of late 2026). It is the most populated country in the world, having surpassed China. The latter country officially abolished its one-child policy in 2016, ending restrictions that had been in place since 1979. We can probably thank the policy for helping India surpass China in terms of population growth.
India has a large population accustomed to mobile-first financial services and online gaming. Crypto casinos can appeal to people who already hold cryptocurrency or want access to international gaming platforms. And India is a "grey" enough market to appeal to crypto casinos. The nation's gambling laws and restrictions on real-money online gaming make the market legally complicated but not restrictive enough to almost entirely eradicate the activity like what we are seeing in Brazil, not to mention China.
Canada
This is a dream market for the gambling sector. It's now regulated but the government has a "live and let be" approach to offshore websites.
It has an established online casino culture and interest in alternative payment methods.
Vietnam
This populous Southeast Asian nation has strong cryptocurrency adoption and interest in online betting, despite restrictive gambling laws. It is ideally suited to embrace crypto casinos courtesy of the anonymity characteristics and wide acceptance.
In fact, Vietnam has one of the strongest cryptocurrency markets in the world, particularly when measured by adoption among ordinary consumers.
Türkiye
Significant cryptocurrency usage and interest in offshore gambling, although unauthorized online casinos are prohibited. And it is this latter point that makes crypto casinos especially prominent here.
