OAKLAND PARK, Fla (Gambling911.com) - Before he was named UNC football general manager, Michael Lombardi hosted popular gambling shows that included The Lombardi Line on VSiN and co-hosted the gambling-focused “Hammer Dahn".
His stint at the University of North Carolina didn't last long however.
News broke Thursday that Lombardi, the highest paid general manager in college football, had been resigned from the program amid a sex and drug probe.
Lawyers investigating UNC football questioned people about allegations involving assistant Steve Belichick and, separately, about a possible sexual relationship between at least one employee and at least one player, people familiar with the probe tell WRAL.
“I want to thank Chancellor [Lee] Roberts and Bill Belichick for the opportunity to serve as the GM of UNC Football,” Lombardi said in a statement released through his lawyer. “I have decided it’s best for me to resign my position as GM to allow the team to focus on the ‘26 season.”
UNC said: “The University will continue its ongoing investigation and will consider all appropriate corrective actions responsive to the information it learns.”
Lombardi had been on paid leave in the wake of an internal investigation into a human resources complaint filed by a former UNC front office employee, ESPN's Pete Thamel reported in late July.
