Las Vegas Metropolitan Police announced Saturday afternoon an investigation into a possible illegal biological lab but stressed there was no danger to the general public.   The location is approximately 12 miles east of the famed Vegas Strip.

"VMPD and the FBI are currently serving a search warrant near East Washington Ave. and Hollywood Blvd. As a precaution, investigators on scene will be wearing protective gear in case hazardous material is found inside the residence. This is expected to be a prolonged investigation. This is not part of any ICE operation. Please avoid the area."

LVMPD Sheriff Kevin McMahill stated at a press conference that the operation is an isolated incident with no threat to the public.

The search warrant itself was served at 5:51 a.m. Saturday morning on a house located at Sugar Springs Drive, where evidence of possible biological material, including refrigerators with vials of unknown liquids, was found.  Pathogens can leak into the air, water, or surfaces when proper safeguards are not in place.  At the Sugarsprings home, teams went inside and found evidence of “possible biological material,” including “refrigerators with vials containing unknown liquids,” McMahill said.

While SWAT searched the home, FBI agents searched a nearby home on Temple View Drive, but no threat was found at that home,

At the news conference, Metro played video from the two searches, showing the raids.

The investigation is ongoing with a significant police presence remaining at the scene.
