Connecticut Judiciary Committee 37-0 Vote to Ban Sweepstakes Casinos
You've seen the commercials. You may even be playing at one. Sweepstakes casinos are all the rage but some state regulators have a bit of rage themselves over these websites.

Take Connecticut for example.
We are learning that state's Judiciary Committee approved a bill banning online sweepstakes casinos and lottery ticket courier services by a 37-0 vote. This is the second committee approval — both unanimous.
It's not over until it's over but sweepstakes casinos can certainly see the writing on the wall and it's a big "F*** off" from regulators and lawmakers alike.
Connecticut is one of the few states that legalized real money online casinos back in 2021. No doubt they are looking to protect that cash cow.
The states going after sweepstakes sites aren't always so logical on the surface.
Take Louisiana for example. Unlike Connecticut, online gambling in Louisiana is illegal and prohibited with the exception of licensed and regulated Sports Wagering and off-track betting, and there are some parishes that prohibit the latter.
The Louisiana Senate unanimously passed a bill banning sweepstakes gambling on Wednesday.
If signed into law, Louisiana SB 181 would go into effect on Aug. 1.
Diehards may recall that Louisiana was one of the last nails in the coffin for European sportsbooks operating within the US long before the Supreme Court overturned the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act in 2018. A SportingBet executive named Peter Dicks became the inconceivable poster child of a crackdown on sports gambling by the Louisiana State Police in 2008.
We probably won't be seeing the likes of Chumba Casino continue to operate in Louisiana as fines will be as high as $100,000 and prison sentences could go up to five years. Ouch!
