Actor and celebrity poker player James Woods appeared on CNN Wednesday morning and could not hold back tears as he feared for his neighbors, one of whom is elderly, caught up in the California wildfires that have stretched from the Pacific Coast inland to Pasadena.

Woods believes his home was among those destroyed.  He had escaped the fires as homes around him burned to the ground Tuesday aftenroon.

"I'm 77 years old, I can't walk up these hills," Woods told CNN's Pamela Brown.  "It's like Mount Everest there.  It's pretty steep."

Woods was able to confirm that his elderly neighbor did make it out alive and is in the hospital.  His neighbor Robert remains unaccounted for, however.

In a heartwarming tale, the actor told of how his wife's eight-year-old approached them with her little yeti piggy bank offering it to them to rebuild their house.

So far, some 1000 structures have been destroyed in the apocalyptic fires.

Los Angeles and its surrounding areas are being razed by at least four fires: Palisades, Eaton, Hurst and Woodley.

The National Weather Service warned of widespread damaging wind through Wednesday afternoon, with wind gusts of 50-80 mph, and isolated 80-100 mph winds in the mountains and foothills. Forecasters said downed trees and power outages were expected.

According to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, known as Cal Fire, there are four wildfires currently scorching Los Angeles County: the Palisades Fire, at nearly 3,000 acres; the Eaton Fire, over 2,000 acres; the Hurst Fire, about 500 acres; and the Woodley Fire, at 75 acres. The Tyler Fire that's burning in Riverside County was 50% contained, officials said.
