DraftKings Hacked? Sends Out Weird Golf Bet Email to.... EVERYONE

If you're like us, perhaps you received that bizarre email about two winning golfers triggering a bet grade to a Dead Heat Reduction.

It came courtesy of DraftKings, perhaps a deflection away from its decision to back off a proposed betting surcharge.

DraftKings is routinely bashed for its desire to please shareholders at the expense of its customers.  This usually comes in the form of imposing draconian limits on customers.  Speaking of which, we have a new answer to this trend courtesy of Gambling911.com's newest addition to our family, BetAmpola (a la high limits).

Apologies for the shameless plug.  Now back to that weird DraftKings email.

"We are writing in regards to the bet(s) you placed on this past weekends golf tournament(s).

"Since two or more golfers tied for the same winning position, your bet(s) was settled using Dead Heat Reduction rules. A "Dead Heat Reduction" is calculated by dividing the odds proportionally among the number of winners for a particular position (i.e. finishing place) in the event. Since this calculation resulted in a payout less than your wager, we are issuing you a bonus bet for the amount of your wager as a one-time courtesy.

"We offer Top Finish Markets Including Ties, which are not subject to Dead Heat Reduction rules and pay out according to the odds at bet placement regardless of there being a tie. These are located in the Tournament page pre-match and live.

DraftKings referred to a specific article dealing with Dead Heat Reduction settlement.

So who got the email?

Seems like everybody did, even those folks who are NOT DraftKings customers.

There is a Reddit for that.

"Anyone else get some weird email from DraftKings talking about your bets from the golf tournament this weekend when I didn’t even bet anything? Also can’t login to my account now which is great. I saw some people complaining about it on Twitter so I’m sure some intern just screwed up but was wondering if anyone else had the same issue."

"I got the same one.  I’ve never used DraftKings.  I’ve used bet365 and ALMOST was convinced - but then I googled :) "

"Got the same email. I have never had an account with Draft Kings.  Draft Kings has obviously been hacked and this is a phishing email.  But, I want to know why Draft Kings even has my email address in the first place?"

"Haha I thought my gambling addict little brother was placing bets using my name. Glad this happened to a ton of people! "

And, yes, the Twittersphere is talking about it too.

Some good advise being offered: Change your password.

DraftKings has yet to explain the email sent to pretty much every single person.  They have said nothing about whether this was a hacking or some screw up internally.  Maybe the same person who came up with that gambling surcharge sent it out.
