Gamecocks Early Look

From Athlon Sports:

"There’s a lot to like, although the Gamecocks lost a lot of talent. The schedule is again daunting, featuring just three home games in the first two months and back-to-back trips to Missouri (four straight wins over USC) and Texas A&M (the Gamecocks are 1-8 against the Aggies all-time) in October. Yet the Gamecocks are at home the entire month of November. Head coach Shane Beamer won seven games in Year 1, then improved to 8-5 in 2022. With major cogs of his offense back, don’t bet against more improvement."

From CollegeFootballNews:

"Maybe it’s not the hope Tennessee fans are feeling after a monster season with a win over Alabama, and maybe it’s not the things-are-working-again hype around LSU, but there’s hope that South Carolina football is on its way to making something special happen."

CFN notes there were glaring holes in the Gamecocks defense entering this season:

"There’s size up front, and there should be an okay rotation around Tonka Hemingway on the inside, but the pass rush has to come from somewhere. Getting Jordan Strachan back from a torn ACL will help, but losing Jordan Burch to Oregon will be a problem."

Week 3 @ Alabama Crimson Tide

South Carolina bounced back to beat Furman after a bad start to the season against UNC.

They now have the unenviable task of taking on an Alabama team that lost to Texas last week.

South Carolina will be a +27.5 dog in this one.

Week 1 vs. UNC Tar Heels

With a schedule like that which South Carolina must endure in 2023, they better get things off right with a win against UNC.

The Tar Heels entered this game as -2.5 favorites.

This one will be played on a neutral field in Charlotte, North Carolina, which is just over the border from South Carolina and a little over an hour drive from where the Gamecocks play in Columbia.   Chapel Hill, where the Tar Heels play, is actually a greater distance away at around two hours.

While South Carolina is coming in as the +2.5 dog, we have them as the -2 to -2.5 favorite.
