Jamie Spears has filed a petition to end his daughter Britney's conservatorship entirely in a move that came as quite a shock late Tuesday.
Most of the betting public was backing #FreeBritney at +250 odds. The oddsmakers were wrong. They had the conservatorship being removed at a firm NO priced -350.
The development comes two months after Britney first publicly testified about the controlling and abusive nature of the arrangement.
The process may extend beyond this year, however. Jamie is demanding $2 million according to news reports.
Judge Brenda Penny, who oversees the case, will also need to approve the move.
“As Mr. Spears has said again and again, all he wants is what is best for his daughter,” the document says. “If Ms. Spears wants to terminate the conservatorship and believes that she can handle her own life, Mr. Spears believes that she should get that chance.”
Britney Spears attorney Matthew Rosengart said in an email the filing “represents another legal victory for Britney Spears — a massive one — as well as vindication for Ms. Spears.”
