Giannis and LeBron Top the NBA MVP Ladder

It’s been a long and quite exciting NBA season so far, where we’ve seen many teams and players go even beyond what we expected, in the hopes of clinching a playoff spot. About 62 to 64 games have been played by each team so far, and that means we’re very close to the end of the regular season; 18 to 20 games or so. Nothing is set on stone yet; however, we’re starting to get a first glance of what the post season could look like, teams are starting to claim their spots, and of course, superstars are doing their best to help their teams achieve the ultimate goal, which is to get to the NBA Finals and fight for a ring.

In this sense, a very interesting battle jumps to our attention, and it is the NBA MVP award, one of the most discussed and disputed honors every season, a topic that certainly brings up the heat in fans, and where many different aspects are taken into consideration once the time comes to choose. There have been many names on the board throughout the regular season, and certainly, everyone who’s been up for discussion has deserved it; amazing players like James Harden, Luka Doncic, Anthony Davis or Kawhi Leonard, to mention a few. However, coming in from the All-Star Break up until now, there appears to be a battle between only two real contenders; the leaders of the two teams that are above all in the NBA, Giannis Antetokounmpo and yes, no other than the 35 year old veteran, LeBron James, who’s hoping to get his 5th MVP award, while Antetokounmpo hopes to keep his, from last year.

Giannis vs LeBron – Head to Head for the MVP

Giannis has been the favorite since the NBA season started, and boy has he lived up to the hype! The Bucks are the best team in the league, #1 in the East, of course, and the Greek Freak has led the team with 29.6 points per game, 13.7 rebounds and 5.8 assists, after 57 games played.
LeBron on the other hand, has been underrated, we could say, for the better part of the year; while the odds on Giannis were around +250 at the beginning of the season, LeBron would pay around +750 or more, and AD was actually the one expected to lead in the Lakers. However, 35 years old and 17 seasons in the league, King James has taken over the NBA again, he’s playing like he’s 25, leading the NBA in assists and in the past weekend, single handedly put his team on his shoulders and beat bot the Bucks and the Clippers, to make a strong statement. James is averaging 25.7 points, 7.8 rebounds and 10.6 assists per game, through 59 games this season, and is going all-in for the ring this time. The Lakers clinched their playoffs spot precisely with their win over Milwaukee, and it will be their first appearance in the post season since 2013, when they got there with 45 wins total. Right now, the Lakers have 49 wins and 20 more games to go.

Odds right now still have Antetokoumpo as favorite, around -150, while James pays close to +120, for the 2019-2020 NBA MVP Award.
