The line on the Philadelphia Phillies vs. St. Louis Cardinals game opened at -136 some books and has moved to -160 at a few.  BetOnline still had St. Louis at -153 just after 11 am. Philadelphia was at +143.  The total sat at 8.5.

These teams have alternated wins and losses over their last eight meetings with Philadelphia winning the last game.

The Phillies, however, are just 4-12 in the last 16 meetings in St. Louis.

The Cardinals have lost five of their last six games overall while Philadelphia is 7-3 in their last ten games overall.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Phillies RH Jerad Eickhoff (1-1, 2.05 ERA) vs. Cardinals RH Jack Flaherty (3-2, 4.17)

Eickhoff rebounded from his first loss of the season with a pair of strong outings, scattering two hits over seven sterling innings in a 4-0 win against Miami with a one-run, three-hit effort of a no-decision versus Washington on Friday. "We have to be cognizant of his workload because he had a short, injury-riddled season last year," Phillies manager Gabe Kapler said of the 28-year-old, who was pulled after 87 pitches against the Nationals. Marcell Ozuna is 5-for-13 with four extra-base hits (three doubles, solo homer) versus Eickhoff, who lost his lone decision against St. Louis despite allowing three runs on six hits in six innings.

Flaherty pitched into the sixth inning for the fourth time in his last five starts on Friday before taking the loss against the Chicago Cubs despite yielding three runs on four hits in 5 2/3 innings. The 23-year-old posted season highs in walks (four) and pitches (110) versus the Cubs and was taken deep for the seventh time in his last five trips to the mound. Andrew McCutchen is 2-for-2 in his career versus Flaherty, but the rest of the current Phillies are 2-for-20 with eight strikeouts against him.

In the end, while we might lean towards St. Louis, the price has little value.  This is especialy true with St. Louis playing poorly of late.

We are now 9-5-1 with our Major League Baseball picks, having won two straight. Last night we had the OVER in the Mets-Padres game.
