Bithumb, an exchange based in South Korea, confirmed Wednesday that some $30 million worth of cryptocurrencies have been stolen from it.

Bithumb is one of the world's largest cryptocurrency exchanges.

A notice was posted on the exchange website with little additional details.  There was no explanation as to how the theft occurred or which cryptocurrencies were taken.

The exchange said it will compensate the loss from its own funds and that all customers' assets have been "securely saved" in the company's "cold wallet."

This further emphasises the importance of holding all wagering funds in a secure cryptocurrency wallet.
