Before You Bet on Three Billboards, Beware

Three Billboards is now the odds-on favorite to win Best Picture at this year's Oscars but beware as there is an ongoing backlash surrounding a racist character that appears in the film.

The problem as illustrated by the AP:

Some critics claimed the film problematically redeems a racist character, played by Sam Rockwell, the likely recipient of the best supporting actor prize.

Ironically, Rockwell is listed as the -900 favorite to win for Best Actor.  This means that the center of all this controversy is essentially a "lock" to win.  The film is not.

Three Billboards was listed at -120, The Shape of Water at EVEN odds and the film gaining the most buzz ahead of Sunday's Oscars, Get Out, would pay out $80 for every $10 bet with a win.

Many an Oscar nominee has been sunk by backlashes of various types.  To date, this latest controversy does not appear to have impacted Three Billboards and its endless accumulation of awards.
