2018 Oscar Odds Released

BetOnline has released odds on the 2018 Oscars following the release of nominations Tuesday morning.

Outside of some major political elections, the Oscars represent the most wagered on entertainment event.

Typical odds on Academy Awards catetories require a significant risk for a substantially reduced payout potential with the favorite almost always a "lock".  But there are almost always categories that are more competitive between two or more nominees.

Case in point: Best Actor for the 2018 Oscars had Gary Oldman as a big -1000 favorite to win for his role in Darkest Hour.  You would need to bet $1000 just to win $100 but you are almost guaranteed a free $100 if you can stomach the $1000 risk.  Online gambling sites will often accept no more than $500 bets on the Academy Awards.

So far this year we have some true excitement with four major categories featuring competitive odds.  They are Best Director, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress and Best Picture, each with two nominees in the -200 to +200 range.
