Books Do The Right Thing After Lady Gaga Screws With Them a Little

Dave Mason of BetOnline was quick to grade Lady Gaga’s first song performed at Super Bowl 51 as the FIELD option despite the singer throwing some bookmakers into a bit of confusion.

Gaga started her performance atop the roof of the NRG Stadium singing This Land is Your Land, obviously not among the First Song choices being offered up by bookmakers.  Books often offer what is known as the FIELD option, any song not specifically mentioned among the odds.

According to Mason, that was actually the most wagered on of all the choices.

Some gamblers and books had to determine if her actual “set performance” that began with a portion of Edge of Glory and immediately merged into Poker Face might be counted among the first songs.  In the end, it was pretty clear the FIELD option should win out.

But in the end it was Lady Gaga’s outfit that had more gamblers and bookies scratching their heads.

Case in point, a member of the SBRForum site initially believed his Lady Gaga Pants prop bet had been graded wrong by BetPhoenix bookmakers.

BetPhoenix has a prop on Lady Gaga's outfit to begin the Superbowl halftime performance. There were three choices offered: (1) pants/shorts, (2) dress, and (3) naked.

I placed a bet on the first option: pants/shorts.

So Lady Gaga wore an outfit that looked like a leotard ( http://img.wennermedia.com/social/wa...d915158466.jpg )

This outfit didn't fall under any of the three choices, so the book should have voided all bets. Instead, BetPhoenix graded all bets as a loss and received a windfall.

BetPhoenix, the classy operation that they are, ultimately resolved the dispute – if you could call it that since it barely lasted no more than 24 hours.

The player later confirmed:

Betphoenix did the right thing and refunded the wager.

The mere fact that there are hundreds of prop bets offered during the Super Bowl  almost guarantees there will be a handful of grading delays.

Mason acknowledged via Twitter on Monday that his team still had to review tape footage in order to ensure some props were graded properly.
