An upcoming Rocket League update is set to introduce a new loot system that practically mimics that of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO) whereby players will be able to purchase keys to unlock random drop crates containing cosmetic items.

Developer Psyonix Vice President Jeremy Dunham wrote on Reddit: “There will be no Steam Marketplace integration with crates.  We are definitely aware of the problems related to third-party gambling in other games and we are not interested in taking that approach.”

A recent lawsuit against CS:GO developer Valve contends that video game developer has allowed minors to gamble.  As a result, Psyonix is taking an entirely different approach.

With news of that lawsuit came last week’s revelations that popular YouTubers had ownership interest in CS:GO Lotto without providing any such disclosure.
