Odds to Be Named Next Prime Minister of England: Boris Johnson Favorite

With David Cameron stepping down as British Prime Minister Friday following the historic Brexit vote to leave the European Union, oddsmakers were quick to post odds on the next Prime Minister.

Former London Mayor Boris Johnson, who led the Brexit efforts, was favored across the board at 4-7 odds to become the next British Prime Minister.  Johnson was actually born in Manhattan.

Time Magazine wrote:

The former Mayor is a well-known wit who once described the likelihood of his becoming Prime Minister as “about as good as the chances of finding Elvis [Presley] on Mars or my being reincarnated as an olive.” But this morning he struck a more sombre, statesmanlike tone, insisting that leaving the E.U. does not mean isolationism: “We cannot turn our backs on Europe, we are part of Europe.”

Theresa May also had relatively short odds of being named the next British Prime Minister at 5-2.

May is a British Conservative Party politician who has been Home Secretary of the UK since 2010.

Michael Gore, the MP for Portsmouth, had the next shortest odds at 6-1.
