A Pennsylvania state lawmaker is losing a committee leadership post after prosecutors accused him of trying to help an acquaintance expand an illegal video gambling business into restaurants and other locations.

State prosecutors said Tuesday they charged Rep. Marc Gergely (GUHR-glee) with three felonies, including dealing in the proceeds of illegal activity and two counts of corrupt organizations. He also faces three misdemeanors.

The Pittsburgh-area lawmaker didn't respond to a message left at his office, and online court records don't name a lawyer who could comment on his behalf.

House officials say the 46-year-old Gergely is losing his post as the ranking Democrat on the House Labor and Industry Committee.

He joined the House in 2003. The acquaintance, Ronald "Porky" Melocchi, was sentenced last year to 10 years' probation.

Melocchi's operation amounted to more than $1 million and some 335 machines at 70 locations outside Pittsburgh when authorities raided it in 2013.
