Oscar winning actor Morgan Freeman was rushed to the hospital following a one vehicle crash late Sunday night along the Mississippi Tennessee border, the latest in a series of incidents that have plagued those who appeared in the blockbuster film: Batman The Dark Knight. Freeman was in serious condition Monday with broken bones, though the injuries were not believed to be life threatening.
The accident happened after Freeman's car went off the shoulder of the road and flipped over, the Associated Press reports. A female passenger in the car also sustained non life threatening injuries.
Clay McFerrin, editor of the Sun Sentinel in Charleston, Miss., was quoted as saying that "They had to use the Jaws of Life to extract him from the vehicle," while also pointing out "He was lucid, conscious. He was talking, joking with some of the rescue workers at one point."
Freeman appeared in Batman The Dark Knight as Lucius Fox, CEO of Wayne Enterprises and Batman's gadget guru.
Earlier in the year, Heath Ledger, was found dead in his Manhattan apartment. Ledger, who played the Joker in Batman The Dark Knight, has garnered rave reviews for his performance and talk of a posthumous Oscar nomination. Ledger was not the only individual connected with the film to have passed away. Conway Wickliffe, a New Zealand-born special effects technician, died while working on the film. He was on a camera truck filming a stunt car when it crashed into a tree in October last year.
Then there was Christian Bale, who played Batman. He found his name splashed all over the tabloids for reportedly assaulting his own mum and sister the same night of the Batman London premiere.
The film itself has hardly been cursed. For the third week straight it's the number one box office smash. The film grossed more than $150 million its first weekend, having been the favorite to do so at online gambling website Bookmaker.com.
