Bookies Make Out Big With Browns, Steelers Covers

The Indianapolis Colts were the icing on the cake for a great NFL Sunday for bookies, a bad one for the gambling public in Week 6.

“Outside of New England having to cover -9.5 to -10.5, Denver was the top play for the earlier part of the day,” noted Don Shapiro of Gambling911.com prior to that Sunday Night Football cover by the Colts.  “While the Broncos did ultimately win, they only did so by a field goal, failing to cover the 4.5 spread.”

The betting public was also all over the Arizona Cardinals to beat Pittsburgh on the road.  Gamblers were down on the Steelers without Ben Roethlisberger in the lineup.

But third-string quarterback Landry Jones managed to secure the 25-13 win, much to the relief of bookmakers.

“Jones was spectacular, throwing a pair of touchdowns after relieving Roelisberger’s disappointing backup Michael Vick,” Shapiro said.

Of the three early sides seeing the heaviest lopsided action, Cincinnati did manage to win and cover on the road against Buffalo.
