Many folks have been inquiring as to when online gambling sites intend to begin offering betting odds on Jared Fogle, the longtime former Subway spokesperson who plead guilty Wednesday to charges of distributing child pornography and illicit sexual conduct with a minor.

Prior to a few weeks ago when an investigation into the Subway spokesperson was made public, Fogle had been worth an estimated $15 million, mostly a result of his endorsement deal and speaking gigs.  He is now facing upwards of 13 years behind bars and is accused of sexually exploiting at least 14 underage girls.

Requests for odds on everything from the length of sentence to the next commercial spokesperson to be arrested (Progressive Flo among the favorites) were streaming in to bookmakers Wednesday afternoon.

“Books won’t touch this one,” remarked Gambling911.com Senior Editor Payton O’Brien. “They’ve been reamed in the past for similar offerings involving other high profile cases.”

O’Brien points to Irish bookmaker Paddy Power and its offering odds on the outcome of South African paraplegic runner Oscar Pistorius’ murder trial last year.

Paddy Power only added fuel to the fire when it started featuring Pistorius ahead of the Academy Awards in the form of an Oscar statuette as part of a cross-marketing campaign looking to capitalize on the popular event in conjunction with Pistorius’ given name “Oscar”.

“Most of the books stopped taking bets on trial outcomes and wagers associated with death and or natural disasters following a string of Hurricanes that hit the U.S. in 2004 and 2005,” O’Brien says.

Bookmaker.eu, the oldest established North American online gambling site, at the time had been taking bets on how many named storms would form in 2006 as well as how many category 3 and above storms were to hit the United States.  None did thankfully with a generous 6-1 odds payout.

“The backlash was nominal but enough to make them stop offering this type of betting the following year, and pretty much each year thereafter,” O’Brien revealed, pointing out that Bookmaker had never taken bets on any type of casualties or damage.

This week Bookmaker began offering up arrest bets directed at – of all people – NFL players.

While not offering bets on specific players, Bookmaker instead opted to offer wagering on the first type of arrest.

And here they are…
