Shared Belief pays decent at MyBookie.ag ($15 for every $10 bet) and he’s pretty much the horse to beat in this year’s BC Cup Classic but we can’t help but see some better value with other contenders.

California Chrome, to start with, pays $35 on a $10 bet. But this Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes winner is mostly being played down at this weekend’s Classic.

Andrew Beyer of the Washington Post writes of Chrome:

The celebrated colt will indeed complete his season in Saturday’s Classic, but not as the undisputed star of the show at Santa Anita. He is merely one of four colts vying for the 3-year-old championship and Horse of the Year title, as well as a $5 million purse. Like most of the 13 Breeders’ Cup events Friday and Saturday, the Classic is a contentious race, a challenging puzzle for handicappers. And none of the entrants is more puzzling than California Chrome.

It’s not just that he was unable to win the Belmont Stakes and complete the first Triple Crown in decades.  We can forgive him for this with fresh horses competing in the Belmont.  Beyer points to Chrome’s lackluster performance at the more recent Pennsylvania Derby.

One of the better options to consider in terms of ability and payout potential would be a horse like Zivo at 13-1.

After all, he has five wins in his last seven races so far this year.  His last three races were all graded stakes, in which he won one and finished less then three lengths from the winner in the other two.
