The Kansas City Royals entered the 2014 regular MLB season with 33-1 odds of winning the World Series and now they are in for the first time since 1985.

Amazingly they are doing it with eight straight post season victories.  And this is a club that simply did not have a whole lot of post season experience.

With Wednesday’s 2-1 win over the Orioles, Ned Yost became the first manager in MLB history to win his first 8th career postseason games. The previous record had been Clint Hurdle’s 7 wins for the Rockies in 2007.

The Royals got all the runs they would need in the bottom of the first on a fielder's choice by Eric Hosmer. Alcides Escobar slid home and forced an error on catcher Caleb Joseph. Both Escobar and Norichika Aoki also scored on the play, while Hosmer reached second.

Game One of the World Series is Oct. 21 in Kansas City.
