Can I Bet The Belmont Stakes From My State? Texas, North Carolina, Arizona, Mor

If you are looking to place bets on Saturday’s Belmont Stakes race at one of a handful of US-licensed online race books like TwinSpires.com and TVG, you may not be able to do so. These sites prohibit bets from over a dozen states including the granddaddy of them all, Texas.  A number of International-based websites like BetDSI.com do accept customers from most of these states with some exceptions.

Prohibited States Include:
Alaska, Arizona, Colorado, Connecticut, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, North Carolina, South Carolina, Texas, Utah, Puerto Rico, The Virgin Islands

TwinSpires.com and TVG.com also won’t take customers from Canada.  BetDSI.com will.

Twinspires.com attempted to win approval to service Texans but a federal lawsuit in which it challenged that state's ban on Internet gambling was dismissed in court and they are currently appealing that decision.

Some of the states listed like Utah and Hawaii prohibit any form of gambling within the state while others have not embraced horse racing.

Connecticut has gone as far as to warn other US-based online horse racing sites they are prohibited from taking wagers from its residents.  They have opted to work exclusively with MyWinners.com and receive a 3.5% cut from that biz.
