Whether it be online or at the local racetrack, heavy betting action has been reported on the Belmont Stakes favorite to win, California Chrome.  This could be history in the making as California Chrome looks to be the first horse to capture the Triple Crown since Affirmed in 1978.

California Chrome was listed at -160 odds to win at AceSportsbook.com online. These odds will likely be slashed beyond -200 prior to post time as more wagers come in Saturday afternoon.  Some will be backing Chrome at an underlay just to possess a souvenir ticket.

Randall Lane of Forbes.com notes that some 15 million people will be watching Saturday’s Belmont Stakes race and around 14.9 million of them will be pulling for California Chrome.

Some online sportsbooks were offering California Chrome vs. the field, in which case Chrome was seeing just over 50% of the betting action.

How We Follow Horse Racing Has Completely Changed

Horse racing has always been a sport built on routine. Certain days meant certain tracks, the form guide landed when it landed, and if you missed a race, you simply caught up later. Following the sport required a bit of commitment, a bit of patience, and often a bit of guesswork.
