Commanding Curve Odds to Win Belmont Stakes: Competition to Chrome?

Commanding Curve, a horse that finished 2nd in the Kentucky Derby and was rested for the Preakness Stakes, comes into this weekend’s Belmont Stakes with 10/1 odds of winning.

History is not on Commanding Curve’s side as the Derby runner-up has only won the Belmont Stakes four times.

Still, this horse has a few things going for him.  One, he seems to be surging at just the right time and, two, he’ll come into Saturday’s race well rested as compared to say a California Chrome.

“We wanted to take the Preakness off the board very quickly because we felt it would be too tempting if we did not,” Commanding Curve owner Terry Finley said. “We put a circle around the Belmont Stakes  and felt very good about it.”

Trainer Dallas Stewart told the New York Times that added distance of the one-and-one-half-mile Belmont may allow his horse to deny California Chrome.

“The best scenario would be to just catch him at the eighth pole and let them fight it out,” the trainer said. “It would be a dream to see them fight it out in the stretch.”

How We Follow Horse Racing Has Completely Changed

Horse racing has always been a sport built on routine. Certain days meant certain tracks, the form guide landed when it landed, and if you missed a race, you simply caught up later. Following the sport required a bit of commitment, a bit of patience, and often a bit of guesswork.
