California Chrome was the +225 favorite to win the 2014 Kentucky Derby at Bookmaker.

The Pros (or strengths) of California Chrome are easy to point out.

He’s probably the fastest of this year’s contenders.

He earned a field-best 106 BRIS Speed rating for his 5 1/4-length win in the Santa Anita Derby and a 102 for his 7 1/4-length San Felipe victory.

His jockey has been here before and he won the 2002 Kentucky Derby with War Emblem.  That would be Victor Espinoza.

The Cons – If the colt breaks and gets surrounded at the onset, California Chrome could be in some serious trouble from his number 5 post.

"I just worry that he might be bumped around," said the favorite's trainer, Art Sherman. "I just want to give him a chance to run."
