Ireland’s biggest bookmaker, Paddy Power, incensed many last week when it opened up odds on the trial of South African paraplegic runner Oscar Pistorius.

Now they’ve made things worse by offering a money back guarantee should Pistorius be acquitted for the murder of his long time model girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, on Valentine's Day last year. His trial is set to begin next week, 3 March 2014.
Pistorius claims he shot into a locked bathroom believing an intruder had entered the residence he shared with Steenkamp.  Instead he fatally wounded his girlfriend.

The promo also looks to capitalize on this weekend’s Oscars with a headline grabber that reads:  “It’s Oscar Time”, a take on Pistorius’ first name.

One man, Giacomo Poochini, tweeted:

Paddy Power hi-jacking a woman's death to encourage people to have a flutter on a gimmick market.

Another woman tweeted that this was “absolutely vile behaviour from Paddy Power”.

The trial begins Monday March 3, 2014.
