Bill to Ban Online Gambling in Kansas Fails

A measure that would have banned online poker in the state of Kansas failed to pass in the Senate on Friday.

House Bill 2055 sought to amend current law concerning racetrack gaming facilities and the Expanded Lottery Act.

That same bill also looked to define “Internet or online gambling” and classify as a class B nonperson misdemeanour.

Had the bill passed, Kansas would have been one of a handful of US states strictly prohibiting Web gambling at a time when such activity is now being legalized on a state-by-state basis.  Utah and Washington are two other states that strictly prohibit most forms of online gambling.  Washington State makes betting on the Web a Class C felony.
