White smoke followed by bells indicated only one thing in Vatican City Wednesday evening:  A new Pope has been chosen. Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio of Argentina has been named in a shocker as he was not among the frontrunners.  He was listed at 20/1 odds.

There has not been a fifth ballot Pope in over a century and since the smoke signal was incorporated.

Early odds heading into Wednesday afternoon had Italy Archbishop Angelo Scola and Ghana Cardinal Peter Turkson as the co-favorites.

The second day selection paid 2/1 odds at Paddy Power.

Typically the quick selection suggested one of the early favorites would become next Pope.

Betting on the next Pope witnessed substantial action from gamblers over the past month.

This story is developing…
