New York Giants Still Favorites To Win 2009 Super Bowl

Despite a lackluster performance against the Dallas Cowboys this past Sunday night, the New York Giants are still the favorites to win the 2009 Super Bowl with odds listed at +270 at BetUS.com (payout would be $270 for every $100 bet).  The Steelers have the second shortest odds at +400 and Tennessee was listed with +650 odds.

The Giants offense has struggled during its two game losing streak.

Monday, when an already banged-up Eli Manning watched film of the Giants' 20-8 loss to the Cowboys Sunday night, he was dealt another blow, according to Jenny Vrentas of the Newark Star Ledger.

"Once I looked at the film, I got more upset," the quarterback said on a conference call Monday afternoon. "We are leaving plays out there on the field. That is something that we can't afford to do in these tough games."

Especially not now, Vrentas points out, with just two games left in the regular season and a showdown with Carolina for the NFC's No. 1 seed this weekend. While home-field advantage and a first-round bye in the playoffs once seemed like certainties for the Giants, their performances in back-to-back losses have taken some of the luster off their postseason plans.

Even more doom and gloom for the Giants:  Carolina is 7-2 in this series dating back to 1996, though the teams have split the last four games.

The Panthers are 12-4-2 ATS in their last 18 games as a road underdog of 0.5-3.0 and are 14-6-1 ATS in their last 21 games after accumulating more than 250 yards passing in their previous game.  They are also 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games in December.

The Giants are 6-1 ATS in their last 7 games following a S.U. loss and 14-3 ATS vs. a team with a winning record.  They are, however, only 6-13 ATS in their last 19 home games vs. a team with a winning road record.

The line on this game was -3 everywhere including BetUS.com.
