Brave Spartacus and Avonrose were the favorites among horse bettors for 12 January, 2012.

Brave Spartacus was running the Catterick 14:45 at odds of 7 to 1 at some race books, though trending had him dipping to 6 to 1 and we could see this number slashed further with the money flowing his way.

Time Form isn’t exactly upbeat about Spartacus’ prospects at Catterick Thursday.

“Yet to match bumper form over hurdles, though shaped better than bare result on a few occasions. Not obviously well treated but might well have a bigger performance in him down the line.”

Nearly 60 percent of those betting this race were backing Spartacus.

Avonrose was racing the Southwell 13:25 at 5 to 1 odds and getting just over 30 percent of the backing.

Time Form offered this opinion of Avonrose:  “C&D scorer who has largely been below best since last win at Wolverhampton (7f) in March. Sprint trip to blame here on Sunday, even so didnt do enough to suggest she was ready to strike again.”

Horse racing has always been a sport built on routine. Certain days meant certain tracks, the form guide landed when it landed, and if you missed a race, you simply caught up later. Following the sport required a bit of commitment, a bit of patience, and often a bit of guesswork.
