Drosselmeyer, Headache, Rattlesnake Bridge, Ice Box Breeders Cup Classic Odds
Drosselmeyer, Headache, Rattlesnake Bridge and Ice Box Breeders Cup Classic odds were coming in longer than 25 to 1 with both Headache and Rattlesnake Bridge at 40 to 1 and Ice Box the biggest long shot at 50 to 1. Churchill Downs owned TwinSpires.com was offering betting on this year’s Breeders Cup Classic online for US citizens here.
The Associated Press had this to say about Drosselmeyer, last year’s Belmont Stakes winner:
Trained by Hall of Famer Bill Mott, Drosselmeyer is 1-for-6 since the Belmont victory, but the 4-year-old seems to be rounding into form. He was second behind Flat Out most recently in the Jockey Club Gold Cup at Belmont Park. And he can handle this track, scoring his first win at Churchill Downs in 2009.
Headache, one of the biggest long shots, has one thing already going for him in that he will not have to run in the mud. Headache has yet to win a race in the slop and this weekend’s weather calls for dry conditions. He has also won three of seven races at Churchill Downs.
Ice Box at 50-1 oddsis a “live long shot”, according to famed trainer Nick Zito. “This horse last year had one of his finest hours when he finished second in the Kentucky Derbyover this track and the Classic’s mile and a quarter.
“He had a chip removed earlier this year and we didn’t get him back to the races till August. Now, we’re getting the rust off him. I love the way he is working. He is as live as can be.”
As for Rattlesnake Bridge, he finished 2nd at the recent Travers Stakes and 1st at this summer’s Long Branch Stakes at Monmouth Park. He also has jockey Calvin Borel. That will attract enough bettors by race time to surely bring these current odds of 25-1 down, so lock them in here now.
