Alex Gustavo Komalomi from Uruguay led the way at the LAPT Punta Del Este Final Table, placing that South American nation in the spotlight once again.

Uruguay stunned the world last month with its Copa America win..

Komalomi had a staggering 2,920,000 in chips; over one million more than his closest competitor, Venezuela's Engelberth Steve Varela Moreno (1,840,000). Komalomi is the only player from Uruguay at the Punta del Este final table. (No player from Uruguay has ever won an LAPT Main Event title).

The 21 years-old, who lives in Montevideo, is a full-time student and part-time poker player.  He does not have any significant live tournament wins. A win on Sunday would be his biggest.

Four Brazilians, and one player each from Venezuela, Peru and Argentina join the Uruguayan at the Latin American Poker Tour Punta Del Este Final Table.
